Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained,
But happy is he who keeps the law.
I was once complimented on a message I gave at a youth meeting by one of the students. He also asked me, “How long did it take you to come up with that message?” It didn’t take me long to recognize that he was calculating how much of an investment he needed to make in order to deliver a inspirational message. I responded, “36 years.” He was puzzled for a moment and then the lightbulb went on. A powerful message has years, tears, and experience behind it.
Accomplishing a vision in your life this year takes more than an initial feeling of excitement over a brilliant idea. What you do consistently over a period of time will produce results. Many people get excited about an idea but very few actually take those ideas and execute a plan over a span of years. Those that do will experience the fruit of their labors. A man reaps what he sows. What are you sowing this year?
If you want to write a book for instance, estimate how many hours it will take and when you want to complete it. Divide the time by the number of days in the year. When you calculate this information then you know how much time each day you must spend to see this goal accomplished. This may be simple to some but sadly I rarely see people reaping the benefits of long term investing that is beyond their immediate needs. It seems to be a lost practice.
Do yourself a favor. Spend time and resources on something that will benefit you and the people around you in 5 years. Something that gives you nothing as far as an immediate return. In five years you will thank yourself! Vision takes consistent action over a long period of time.
